Crochet Mermaid Blanket (Free Patterns)

Crochet mermaid tail

Would these crochet mermaid blankets — or mermaid Afghans, as they’re also called — be a “splash” in your home? This popular idea has been circulating around the internet, and we’ve found some free patterns for you so you can make as a crochet project yourself if you want. The one we found was created by Nadia over at Yarnutopia. She doesn’t even mind if you use her patterns to make money off of Etsy or other sites, she wrote, but just make sure you make a note that she’s credited for the patters.

The patterns are three sizes of crochet mermaid blankets. The smallest crochet pattern will make a mermaid tail to fit a child who is 4 foot 5 inches tall. The medium pattern will fit those 5 feet to 6 feet tall. Then there is a large pattern for anyone over 6 feet tall. Giant mermaid tail Afghans. Then there is a tail fin pattern that is just one pattern — you can affix the tail fin to any of the afghan mermaid tails.

For all the patterns, the width is the same. That means thinner and thicker people can use them — they’re around 50 inches wide. Nadia opted for a scaly pattern in blue for her tail, unlike the ones pictured above. We feature that above image because people like the idea of those pastel-ly aqua color and wine color. The colors provide an interesting eye texture.

There’s another crochet mermaid tail pattern available for free, too. The one in the image above. It’s an adult sized one and it’s the work of Shelley Bunyard over at MadHooker crochet page (link to this free pattern also provided below).

The materials you’lll need: Medium (worsted) weight yarn, 2 or 3 skeins Macaw, jade, peacock (these are the colors she used), J-6.00mm crochet hook, Yarn needle Stitches used: chain, slip stitch, double crochet, and single crochet.

Here is the 3 sizes patterns. It’s a PDF, and remember, it’s the work based on several online patterns of Nadia at Yarnutopia. Click here to open. For the adult-sized crochet pattern pictured at the top, click here.

Man she’s a sweet looking girl. The two-tone paint is a cool looking color scheme. At first I Wasn’t to sure of the rusty, burnt orange on the lower half. But the Feller I took it to for hanging the Drop and painting frame rails, fenders and the axle talked me into it. We looked at a lot of paint Chips and he assured me the color would be wicked (some old Ford Maverick color). Ha Ha!

But When I picked it up my mind was really blown, I loved it. It really backed up the polished aluminum And chrome nicely with the sun and metal flake it just really popped. I yarded the half fenders And put on the quarters just to make it easier for throwing iron In the winter. All that matched up with an 18 speed and a C 15,550 H P. She just chiseled that asphalt up.

The interior I thought was pretty cool too with an 18″ shifter Extension with a handle on top that was machined and chrome plated, looked more like a custom chopper hand throttle, It looked bad ass.

She had high back leather buckets set into a set of floor pans and bamboo hardwood threw out. Also there 3-10″ subs up under the bunk with 3800 watts in the closet,it would just thump, those sleeper walls would just be shaking. In town I would dial it up just to turn heads, if the 7″unmuffled stacks didn’t already have Ya plugging your ears. HaHa.

Man I’m telling You with all the led’s inside and out and red light bars under the cab ,just above the tanks at night it was super cool. With the 265 WB. And 3 7’s rears it was sorta a dream ride to roll in .Everywhere I trucked it was compliments and can I get a pic.Always a big smile on my face. Keep on Truckin Jet!

Native American Hand Signs

Native American Hand Signs

When hunting, Native Americans used signals to communicate rather than words in order to not scare off the animals.  Storytelling was usually accompanied by body language to further illustrate the speaker’s story.

Can you guess what these signals mean?

1.  Most people do this at night
2.  Before cars became popular, this is what you would see on the roads
3.  If you didn’t own a horse, then you would
4.  In the Western Days this is not what you would order in a saloon
5.  This is what you would order in a saloon
6.  A grown up boy
7.  It is not a Church, but does have a roof
8.  It’s a New ___
9.  Opposite of 8
10.  Opposite of 6

Future Truck

future truck

This future semi truck design is for Peterbilt, and is based on their modern conventionals, but with quite a bit of diversion from the standard models, as you can see. It looks actually like its been updated by a designer who’s accustomed to working on modern SUVs, pickups and cars. Look at the large full pieces involved in the body — almost plastic cutouts — for the rearview mirrors, the lining for the headlights, farings, and other large parts of this exterior. Find a Semi Truck that is within your budget. As tempting as it is to spend all of your money on the latest vehicle, when you find out that you don’t have enough money to maintain your vehicle, it won’t be worth it. But there’s no harm in admiring it from a distance.

The other thing you might have noticed — or might not have — from the photo… the sleeper unit for this semi is basically “of a part” with the cab and engine. It’s barely noticeable, because the lines flow into it starting right from the tip of the nose.

This is the third Peterbilt concept design trucks we’ve featured here, but the first conventional. It’s by the hand of the Rainy’s Truck Parts website blogger (who didn’t add his name to it — who are you, designer? Let us know so we can put your name in here for your truck).

This custom semi truck design is called “RIG 2” by its designer. It’s based off, as you can guess or compare to the picture, the Class 8 Peterbilt conventional, which is considered somewhat of an icon in American culture.

Peterbilt got involved in this design contest with the aim of manufacturing a more fuel efficient semi. It is also designed to be safer for both the driver and other commuters. At the moment, if a car gets into a collision with a truck then it can lead to catastrophic consequences. The people in the car could have their lives drastically changed and would need to contact someone like this truck accident lawyer Abilene for help getting compensation. But it is hoped that these future designs can reduce the damage caused by these trucks.

We get to see all these future semi design concepts because Peterbilt and The Forge Software (used to design all kinds of things, including large trucks). It was all hosted on the Local Motors site, but for some reason, the design submissions aren’t available at the links anymore. If anyone has them, let us know.

Unique Uses of Pumpkin Pie Spice

As the temperatures start to cool down and as the Fall season has steadily arrived, one particular spice typically becomes popular around this time of year. Pumpkin pie spice is generally used in foods that relate to pumpkin pie in some way, but the unique thing about pumpkin pie spice is that it is flexible enough to make just about any food taste better. Sweet but not overpowering, you can conceivably add pumpkin pie spice in drinks as well as foods. In fact, on plenty of occasions I have been able to put pumpkin pie spice in my homemade cappuccino drinks, and being careful with how I taste my cappuccino, I have to say that the pumpkin pie spice adds a rich taste to it. Here is a list of foods that you can add pumpkin pie spice to.

Baked Potato

Believe it or not, pumpkin pie spice actually goes well with baked potatoes. Along with butter, I tend to add various spices to my potatoes, and occasionally I will sprinkle in some pumpkin pie spice. This addition makes the taste of the potato more sweet and it helps because a potato by itself tastes bland otherwise.

Chili

If you are making your own chili in the Crock Pot, for example, you may want to experiment with some spices to give that chili the kick it needs. Some people may resort to cayenne pepper and chili powder, which would make sense, but pumpkin pie spice gives your chili a distinct taste that the more powerful spices often lack. Taste isn’t just about being spicy. Taste is something that you can recognize, and when mixed with other spices, pumpkin pie spice will stand out, especially in chili mixes.

Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

Desserts are definitely friendly towards pumpkin pie spice, and there certainly isn’t anything wrong with adding some of this spice when making your own peanut butter and banana sandwich. All 3 components of this custom take on Elvis Presley’s favorite sandwich are healthy for you, and as stated before, pumpkin pie spice is not overpowering, so not only does it complement the texture of the banana, but it blends in very well with the peanut butter spread.

Chicken Salad Sandwich

Sticking with sandwiches, the chicken salad sandwich also benefits from the addition of pumpkin pie spice. Now you may be wondering how and why pumpkin pie spice works with chicken, but then again, since pumpkins are associated with Thanksgiving and turkey, it isn’t that farfetched to think that this spice can work with chicken just as easily. Pumpkin pie spice doesn’t hinder the taste that the chicken salad sandwich already provides, but rather enhances it to give off a Thanksgiving-like feel.

Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream

Having pumpkin pie spice as a key ingredient of a custom made ice cream would be a very wise idea. This is proven and true. If you are still in the mood for cold ice cream but would like to get a taste of the Fall theme, then this would be your snack to get at places like the grocery store. I have bought pumpkin ice cream on multiple occasions during the Fall season, and adding pinches of pumpkin pie spice to it clearly makes sense.

10 Of The Largest North American Migratory Birds

10 Of The Largest North American Migratory Birds

How many can you guess? Here’s some hints:

1. They can be found in both Canada and the States.  In colder months they will often migrate to the Southern States and to Mexico but many have become permanent residents in areas which offer a warmer winter season. When migrating they utilize the infamous V formation which allows them to cover thousands of kilometers per day.

2. They ride thermals which allows them to save energy as they search for carcasses which they sniff out with their great noses. Bigger than most other raptors, they are readily recognized by the ‘fingers’ on the tips of their wings. They are a dark brown with a red head and a pale beak.

3. These leggy birds are often seen in marshes or along the coastline in various water sources.  Their long necks allow them to swallow fish or mice whole in one quick motion; after standing motionless, quietly waiting, sometimes, for long periods of time.

4. The bird of the States; although Alaska and Canada have the largest numbers. These birds were once on the decline but are now a growing population and have been removed from the endangered species list.  They are easily recognizable with their white head and tail.

5. This is one of the largest of the raptors, fast and sharp-eyed.  Mainly found in Western Northern America, these birds prey on rabbits and other small mammals.  They are dark brown once they reach adulthood with beautiful golden feathers on their head and neck.

6. These white birds breed in the Arctic but find habitats on the North American shores in the off season. Quite majestic in appearance, these long necked swans sometimes travel over thousands of kilometers when migrating.  They are often confused with the Trumpeter Swan; however their distinct calls easily identifies them to avid bird watchers.

7. This bird is the tallest of them all in North America.  They can be found in Wood Buffalo National Park and migrate to the Southern States.  When their wings are spread one can see the black tips that are hidden when not in flight.  These birds are white with red, black, and grey markings on their head and neck.

8. These birds are grey in colour with red caps on their elegant heads.  Flocking together sometimes in the thousands, these birds make a definite commotion when they take flight. They are very tall with long necks and legs; and they have a short tail hidden by their sturdy body of feathers.

9. White with long orange bills, they are duck like; however unlike ducks, they do not dive for their supper but scoop the fish up with their bill pouches.  Unlike most birds, they do not lay their eggs in a nest but rather inside a small depression which is quite often barely big enough to house the eggs.

10. Is claimed to be the heaviest living bird native to North America. They are easily recognisable by the fact that they are completely white with a black beak. Hunted for their feathers these birds were thought to be almost extinct but larger populations have been confirmed. Sometimes you will see them with their bottoms-up as they reach down into the water to acquire aquatic vegetation for their supper.

Answers: Canada Goose, Turkey Vulture, Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Tundra Swan, Whooping Crane, Sandhill Crane, American White Pelican, Trumpeter Swan
