Even addiction to social media such as Facebook and Twitter has already been labeled as an addiction and according to public health officials, more than one hundred patients seek treatment every year. Taking a selfie promote the darn-if-you-will; darn-if-you-don’t attitude that sugar coats the low self-esteem of people suffering from many forms of depression. Even narcissistic people are know to be of very low self esteem and they have the unreasonable desire to be glorified in order to make up for any feelings of inadequacy.
What’ worst about this rising problem that so many people are unaware of is that digital narcissism, often puts too much pressure on people to achieve unbelievable goals such as become like a supermodel or a famous actor or actress. When the goal is not achieved, it creates a feeling of self-loathing. The sad part is there are people out there on social media who are not as sympathetic and instead of acceptance, they reinforce the feelings of inadequacy and add more pressure.
Narcs ism is the obsession with oneself and the opinion of others. These feelings are gratified through selfie and so many people are slowly becoming like it without really being aware of it. While social networking sites are fun and a good way to keep in touch and make friends, the sad truth is it can be harmful. Be more aware of what changes it brings to you and your love ones and avoid being lost in the hype of it.
