How many hours does it take to build your own teardrop trailer.
A DIYer built his own in around 80 hours.
The DIYer reported that he didn’t want to sleep on an air mattress in his tent any longer with his wife camping. And air mattresses do leave something to be desired in a sleeping surface, in my experience.
They built a 2-person teardrop camper. Pretty neat.
The man already had an ability in metal-working so fabricating his own teardrop frame was something he was able to do. The wood body was trickier for him.
“My father and I always worked on cars together, and we have built several trailers together.. so all of that was easy for me to figure out,” said the DIYer.
“Using wood tools was new to me, I borrowed a neighbor’s table saw and hand held jigsaw for most of the work. The router I borrowed from my father in law. Those are really the only woodworking tools that I used.” Of course, if you are to undertake this project, you might want to buy your own tools. Make sure you research the products carefully before purchasing any – for example you might want to read these reviews of jigsaws to see which are the best out there.
The length is 10 feet, and its five wide. It has a queen sized bed and a kitchen inside. It weighs around 1,000 pounds.
If you aren’t a very experienced DIYer then this might not be the right project for you. It will probably be better to look on Crow Survival for your new trailer, rather than making your own as yours won’t be as reliable as a newly bought one.
Note: you have to make things roadworthy — ie legal. He built his in Minnesota, where, he said, there was only a one-time $80 fee to register an under-3,000 pounds trailer.
