What Happened to Principles?
What happened to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s idea of securing the elderly through contributory annuities? He had three concepts; shelter, livelihood, and security for people’s future. The New Deal plan was to be based on these concepts. The Social Security was to be a volunteer basis. States and the Federal government together were to set-up plans with business companies who wanted to utilize the contributory insurance. Although at the beginning some these companies did not come on board, the companies which did all employees were involved in the contributory insurance. This means if a person worked at a company, which was participating in the insurance they too would contribute to the insurance. The theory was to put it simple an investment for those who participated in the insurance, giving them the opportunity to care for themselves when they became elderly. He understood there were elderly people the government would need to assist at the time of the proposal. He believed like Abraham Lincoln, that “The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all or cannot do so well for themselves in their separate and individual capacities.”
Now today are those same principles being achieved? Stop and think about the elderly now. Some have to decide between feeding themselves and buying their medicine. And what happens when they get sick; Medicare/Medicaid does not cover the medical bills. So they have to get insurance and still there are costs. Of course, when it is time they cannot live alone anymore…where do they go? The nursing facilities are under staff because the funding will not give sufficient support. Sometimes one must wonder if the government does sets up so people will disappear and therefore no longer be a burden. When did it happen we became so callous of the elderly or people in general? Franklin D. Roosevelt announced, “I am not for a return to that definition of Liberty under which for many years a free people were being gradually regimented into the service of the privileged few. I prefer and I am sure you prefer that broader definition of Liberty under which we are moving forward to greater freedom, to greater security for the average man than he has ever known before in the history of America.”

18 Wheel House! Semi/Home Hybrid (UPDATED)
After posting our write up on this 18-wheel house, which is a combo of a semi tractor and a trailer house, a lot of people offered comments and information on the vehicle — a fairly unique vehicle I think you might be able to say.
First off, Curtis Carr it was who noted that this tractor is a Freightliner, not a Peterbilt, although quite a few people caught that error.
Some people wondered about the whole thing. Why do you need a sleeper cab on the tractor if you have a trailer that is a custom house-on-wheels already? Todd Scorzafava fielded this question: It’s for those who want to be able to tow their house somewhere and leave it there, but then drive somewhere for a weekend trip and sleep in the sleeper unit. It’s also if you need to relocate to another state, he also noted.
How can people make money hauling something like this? The answers from truckers seemed to be that this truck probably wasn’t going to be used to make money, and was more for those who already had some money and didn’t need to make more, or didn’t need to make their money with their RV motorhome.
One comment we’d like to know more about: Christos Mitskopoulos said he was surprised that Wayne Basaraba’s vehicle could be “beat.” Well guys, can we see a picture of the other vehicle?
And anybody else out there who has a big home on wheels that’s unique in some way, we’d like to see the pictures.

Popsophia came, and the moment of the perfect wedding between contemporary life and academic philosophy is finally arrived!
ROME, Italy -Have you ever heard talking about Popsophia? What will it ever be? Simple, it is the philosophy of the contemporaneity which was born in the beautiful lands called Marche, a district in the heart of Italy, four years ago. It rose from the need to save academic philosophy from its own reclution among its beautiful ivory college towers.
At first it was born like a summer cultural event, where intellectuals dealt with important cultural and social problems of our age, through the eyes of philosophy. For example, this year it has dealt with the historic and existential trauma caused by shipwrecks in contrast with the joy which finds new resources just inside catastrophes. Last year, instead, it dealt with the problem of the fake presence of men in the present time, and two years ago it debated about the actual meaning of heros and anti-heroes in our society. Then, if we want to go more closer to it’ s start we can find other topics such as: the feminism in Carrie Bradshaw, the nostalgia in Mad Man, the importance of traditions in our multiethnic society, the relation between laugh and philosophy.
In this four years it has been devolving itself, infact, it has became a growth project too, that involves teachers, students and even political istitutions, and now, even if it is not going to stop to be a summer cultural event, it has been becoming a cultural challenge able to be in the middle of the italian cultural debate.
The exact purpose of Popsophia is to lead the academic philosophy to its origin. To be able to understand that, it is very important to mention what Cicerone said and what Socrates did. The stoic Roman, who died to fight for its ideas, used to say that philosophy had to abandon the sky to go among people, while Socrates used to go right down among that people in his town square’s street to spread the concepts of Truth and Justice using the pure beauty of philosophy and dialectical dialogues.
In this moment, probably you all are wondering why these two philosophers are so important to make us realize Popsophia’s goal; and well, the reason is hidden behind the fact that both desired to use philosophy to create a better world and a better man and in order to do that they tried to convince people using those dear philosophical concepts of them in their daily routine and that’s what Popsophia wants too. They succeeded in their task because philosophy was something alive at their age and a lot of men asked them for advices.
Unfortunately, today is not like yesterday. Today philosophy has to change the traditional means used by the Ancient great Philosophers to spread its concepts, because it has two problems that before were absent. The first concerns the fact that in our time philosophy and human life are divided, while the second is that popsophia doesn’t receive enough helps from the academics who think it is not anything serious.
The thing is that, in the society of money, fun without a noble progress and narcisism, where most of people are in fashion, riches and sex, philosophy has been losing its charm every day so using philosophy’ s beauty to spread philosophy like Socrate did is not enough anymore. Today, it seems philosophy doesn’ t find its sit and the philosophy of the contemporaneity wants give one to it, how? Using what has turned it into an old fashion thigh. Regarding this subject it’ s very important to mention what the pioneer of this new kind of philosophy, Lucrezia Ercoli thinks. She thinks that the solution of the actual philosophy’s problem is to make join pop-culture and academic philosophy and the better way to do that is making join pop-life (mass state life) with philosophy or we can say to put philosophy in what people are into, namely, philosophy must have a confrontation with the mass society’s products. It is not for azard, infact, that Avital Ronell, an American philosopher who contributes to the field of continental, political and feminist philosophy, for example says: “if Aristotele wrote now he would deal with soap opera”.
This is the way, the mean that popsophia found and has been using for four years to make philosophy living again with a more and more increasing succes among young and old nowadays people.
Now, that you know about this cultural event, precisely sets at the Rocca Costanza of Pesaro, in Marche district around July and August of every year, just one thing remains to do: to think about if, Popsophia can have a shot for becoming a new cultural movement or if it is destined to an impasse without progress.

No Bread Sandwich Ideas!
Not everyone can eat bread with ease, and even for those who can, many prefer to eat less wheat. Sandwiches can still be made or worked around for those people, because bread isn’t the only thing that can wrap sandwich layers.
Large mushrooms can sit on top of and below a burger or sandwich.
Slices of meat can replace bread, and you can melt cheese so that the whole thing sticks together.
You can wrap food in peppers — red peppers or green or yellow. They’re big and hold together well.
Tofu can be bought in large pieces and cut so that it is almost like bread.
Lettuce wraps are somewhat popular. You can use different types of lettuce to make a sandwich or taco or wrap creation.
Cucumbers are another idea. They can be cut lengthwise like a submarine sandwich or in rounds like round crackers.
Tomatoes, although less sturdy perhaps, can also be used.
For a bit sweeter snack, apples can be used. Some people put raisins, peanut butter or other spreads and foods inside.
Avocado holes can house tuna stuffing or other sandwich-like foods.
5 DIY Composting Techniques For Creating Your Own Rich, Organic Fertilizer
Composting is necessary if you want to have rich fertilizer handy for your plants and veggies. It is simple and you can apply these five different methods. It does not matter if you are taking care of a big farm or you just have a little kitchen garden in an urban residence. Composting can be done in big spaces as well as in small areas. You just need to apply these simple methods.
Actually, every single day, we have tons of garbage from our foodstuff. Just imagine, billions of people in the world have full trash bins at the end of the day. So the idea of composting is a brilliant thought that we should all be doing. Someone who started to collect food scraps from restaurants was able to save around one hundred eleven tons of food waste and he was able to turn it into magnificent nitrogen rich compost! This is really motivating, isn’t it?
Basic Composting – from the word basic itself, it is an uncomplicated method of composting. A space of about twenty five sq. ft is enough for the pit. Put some layers of organic materials like dried leaves and bark, and then put some grass cuttings and veggie scrapings. Then top them with soil. Keep on adding the layers until it reaches at least four feet high. And for basic composting, take care that it does not turn wet, it has to be kept moist.
Bin composting is also called as the “no turn” technique. It has similarity with basic composting. You will be adding layers but for bin composting, you need 3 bins for this method. You have to continue adding layers to the first bin until it is filled. You can then move on to the next bin. This bin composting is a very long method and it may take three years to decompose.
Quick composting is for those who have no patience to wait. You can simply combine basic composting and bin composting. Alternately, use basic composting and bin composting two times a week. Make sure that the pile stays warm.
Trenching is a method of composting by excavating a ditch of approximately three feet deep and pouring it with scraps, layering them with soil. Wait for about two to three months for the scraps to decompose and you’re ready to start your vegetable garden!
Worm Composting is ideal for small spaces like those who are living in urban areas. You could even have indoor worm composter. You can have the most fertile soil compared to other composting methods. Make use of red wriggler earthworms for they can break down foods scraps into mouldings while nutrient rich worm tea is good as an organic fertilizer. But worms cannot be fed a lot of food in one go and you must try to avoid any citrus type of food, onion family and meat. This method is also not very smelly as compared to other composting methods.
Choose the best method that fits your space and follow the simple instructions for your DIY composting technique.
