It’s a big unit. Look at it compared with the 4X4 Subaru beside it.

They tow that car around with them behind the motorhome when they’re moving. They have that rigged up so a towball from the motorhome couples to an A-frame hooked to the body of the vehicle being towed.

“The steering lock is released by a blank ignition key turned one click to free the steering without activating the ignition or allowing car to start,” explained wwcarey1. It tracks along behind with the steering lock off.

This motor home isn’t just an RV traveller, though. It’s their home.

The owner said that in New Zealand, many motorcamps allow motorhome owners to do long stays. And other options include freedom camping areas, DOC sites, NZMCA parks, park over properties, and other places.

Custom and Unique Truck

When picking around old forum threads, you never know if you might find very unusual show trucks like this custom semi from the 80s. It’s not even from this continent. It’s a European show truck.

The original was published in a German magazine called “Fernfahrer Magazin,” and a member of the Trucknetuk board was so curious about it he asked the forum. The guy was called (by his forum handle) Franzneufra.

The answer came from a senior member of that board, “KW”:

KW wrote that this giant Volvo with its angular trailer and mural-painted drom box was one that belonged to a character who went by the name of “Mr. Trucker” on the international trucking scene. He was a larger-than-life character, KW wrote, who used to do the truck show circuit around Europe.

He was also featured in Trucking Magazine in that decade as well, and KW though he might have gone on to later drive the Bandag show truck.

The plates are Danish ones, also answered by KW.

Travel Toy Hauler

Have you ever looked into these 5th wheel toy haulers? This one’s made by Keystone Outback, and it’s a 27 footer — but it also has a loft.

It’s about 7 years old now, and coming up for sale it’s still being listed with an asking price of $27,900.

We’ve written about motorhomes and other RVs that tow toyhaulers, and even some busses converted into toyhaulers, but with this kind of unit people tow them behind their pickups as well. Some of the space is taken up by the garage, where people frequently store their quads, motorbikes, sleds, and other wheeled (and tracked) toys. But that still leaves enough room for some sleeping and living space, plus with this particular one there’s that pop-up loft, which would have a better view and would get some good breeze in the summer time heat.

The unit also has a fold out cookstove on the exterior, for barbequeing without having to smoke up the interior. And it has a big fold-out awning. It also has a living room slide out, like you see on motorhomes and studio sleeper rigs sometimes. The interior has a lot of motor home -like features; AC, 6-person dinette, electric thermostat, ducted furnace system, microwave, water heater, TVs, 30 amp system and deep cycle battery, sound system, cloth interior seat, viyl flooring. The total length is 32 feet.

Why is it so expensive if it’s a 2009? It hasn’t been used. It’s just sat since it was bought. It’s only a technically used travel trailer toy hauler. Unfortunately, no pictures of the interior of this one, but you can visit the seller, ecarlist (click here) for motorhomes, toy haulers and all kinds of other vehicles for sale.

Powerful RV

This huge and powerful luxury RV conversion is the work of Marv Mountstephen of Outlaw Welding and Mechanical. It was made a few years ago for a couple in Taber, Alberta.

The builder pointed out some of the differences between building an RV onto a big semi tractor vs a smaller vehicle:

“The nice thing about building it on a truck is you don’t have to worry about weight. It’s built like a tank and if it doesn’t last for 40 years I’d be surprised.”

Another difference when you’re dealing with a toterhome, the builder said, was that you don’t have to think about weight in the same way. Most RVs think about weight a lot. They use lightweight materials for the RV features. When a person builds onto a Class 8 chassis, however, you can use heavier materials.

In this case, they used residential quality sinks, shower, and washer / dryer.

Truck specifications:

RV luxury interior features:

– hot water heating system
– tool boxes
– pull-out BBQ

The custom luxury motor home also has some features done outside of the original builder’s shop:

– custom flooring
– mural

The total cost of this RV conversion was estimated at around $400,000. It took around 2,500 – 3,000 manhours to construct (but the builder think they could do a second one in half the time).

100% Fully Custom 1973 Winnebago Brave

This custom Winnebago is the work of owner Pierre Guernon, who sent us all the information about this vehicle on the Planes, Trains page.

Pierre is a Quebec resident, where he is known for his classic Winnebago. Winnebago is a well-established company for RVs, and Winnebaggo-ers have a ton of groups around the world, and Pierre belongs to probably most of them.

Here’s Pierre himself about his Winnebago. His mother tongue is French:

” I am reknown, with my machine, in 34 RV Groups ALL-OVER the Planet….Each Group, has received 34-35 pictures – before and after, plus comments….!!!”

His truck is unique.

Custom Cabovers

Here’s a couple of custom cabovers for you, from days gone by. They’re Peterbilt 362s, and they were documented in a large collection on Tim’s Trucks about 5 years ago.

The Peterbilt 362 COE came in a number of length cabs. The cabs came in (as the smallest) 54 inch, 63, 76, 82, 90 and (the biggest available from the factory) 110 inch sleepers.

The first picture, the one in the image above, is a 90 inch cab with a drom sleeper on the back. The cab corner exhaust is, as you can see, recessed in this unit. According to Tim, this one was once owned by Barbara Mandrell, the country singer.

Moving along to the images down at the bottom of this page, you’ll find a yellow, white and green custom daycab COE which was one of a fleet of similarly-decorated 362s — both COEs and straight truck — that were run by Magginni Hay. This yellow custom cabover was photographed by Brad Wike. If anyone knows who photographed the grey drom sleeper unit, let us know so we can write that in.

Cabover RV Conversion

This luxury cabover conversion RV is one done by those that well-known motorhome / toterhome conversion company, Cowboy Cadillac, and it’s a rig based on — as you can see from the photo above — a Freightliner Argosy COE.

They call this luxury home on wheels a Benzhauler, and it has a lot of luxury features, and some style elements you might not find elsewhere, like the curvy ceiling mirror in the main living area. I almost though I was looking at a double-level luxury interior when I first glanced at that.

The custom motorhome company has been in business now around 10 years making “countless holidays and lifetimes of memories” with their service. The U.S. company has over 140 international partners, and they say they can build your RV or do your rig conversion to whatever the standards are in most countries.

Some of the notable features of this toterhome:

The patio area with a 21 foot awning, the 14 foot by 4 foot slide, the multi-vehicle garage in the rear of the back, the luxury features like the entertainment system (there’s an outdoor one as well), and the stylings of the interior area — the bedroom, main living area, washer/dryer area, bathroom.

The photos aren’t that great, unfortunately. I think Cowboy Cadillac posted them in around 2010. They do give you an idea of the styling and comfort they incorporate into their semi truck conversions, though. Visit Cowboy Cadillac (click here). Cabover Customization

Has anyone tried to customize their cabover using a video game custom-vehicle design platform? It doesn’t seem like that bad of an idea. The old way was drawing it out freehand on a piece of paper, or using an expensive and hard-to-use cad program.

This particular custom cabover (the one in the picture above) was designed by BrianC, who shared it on modhub and smcars, and it uses a pretty complicated design process. It’s based on a 1987 Kenworth K100 Aerodyne cabover, and was modeled in Zmodeller 2, rendered in Keyshot4 and then edited in Windows Paint.

It’s called a “skin”. And another “skin” designer named Henki made one very similar, so lets give credit to both of these guys for their custom skins.

Henki made his on the video game Grand Theft Auto it looks like, which allows game players to customize their vehicles in virtual custom shop.
