This truck debuted less than 10 years ago. Is it hard to believe? It’s Navistar International’s Lonestar, which came out in 2008 as part of the truck company’s Advanced Classics line of Class 8 highway tractors.
It was designed with advanced aerodynamics in mind, and it has its own looks profile to it, unlike pretty much every other semi tractor out there. That look is about reducing drag and being more efficient as anything.
The fuel economy of this semi truck is supposed to be around 5 to 15 percent better than the traditional trucks that were being produced in 2008.
That 5 to 15 percent translates into around $3000 to $5000 per year per truck on average.
The Lonestar came with Cummins ISX diesel engines when it was shown (that photo above is from the big unveiling of the model at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. The engines were from 435 to 600 horsepower, and they also had 10 to 18 speed transmissions, ABS brakes, roll stability control, hands-free calling bluetooth headsets, steering wheel with leather wraps, roll stability control, and other fancy trucking features that International used to appeal to owner-operators and trucking fleets all over.
Now, over half a decade later, Lonestars have made their mark. Some like them more than others, but from what I’ve heard its more like than not. What do you think of their 7 years of production?
