This is a custom semi tractor design for Peterbilt as part of their project to create a modern model, updated to reduce fuel consumption while retaining the traditional “Peterbilt look.” This particular Peterbilt design definitely has a lot of vehicle elements that seem to belong to the current style aesthetics. Look at the large, chunky of-a-piece parts of the exterior. Don’t they remind you of the almost plastic cutout style used in today’s trucks and SUVs?
This truck is designed with a new exterior and comfortable interior (photo at bottom). And you might not have even really noticed the sleeper of the truck, since the lines flow smoothly from the nose backward, and the sleeper is almost “hidden” by the design.
The designer is Alex Panaltescu, and he termed this semi truck the “RIG2.” It’s part of the Local Motors / Peterbilt competition for a new design.
The modern truck designer said of this Peterbilt update that the design was fueled by American culture, the Class 8 conventionals that many people have seen in American films and elsewhere.
He also said he gave his truck design a bit of “Italian styling” — that’s to make it look unique from other semi truck designs. He also wanted to create a design that allowed the truck to be safer for both the driver and other commuters. As it stands, if a car gets into a collision with a truck then it can lead to calamitous repercussions. The people in the car could have their lives drastically changed and would need to look at a site like https://www.herrmanandherrman.com/trucking-accident-lawyers/ to see if they can get legal assistance. But it is hoped that these designs can reduce the damage caused by these trucks by using newer, safer methods.
