This Peterbilt Sentinel concept truck is one of many possible long-base trucks Peterbilt is working on.
While being a purposeful vehicle — almost everything we have in our houses and workplaces was at some point transported by a big truck — vehicle design is important to many drivers because the models become icons for their sensibilities and aethetics.
The trucks are also bases from which customization begins, for many owner-operators. That means that trucks that have more room for customization (for example, the Peterbilt 379 that is perhaps the most famous customized truck) is a fairly simple design, but has several physical components that each allow customization easily.
The boxiness is perhaps a big part of this — rounded, modern looking vehicles perhaps don’t allow the same level of customization.
This is a Luigi Colani design, but, according to some, the truck design was too different from Peterbilts existing model aesthetics to be used — at least for now. Maybe the Sentinel or some of its design features could be used in the future, as the design has its fans as well as its critics.
