This big classic conventional truck was identified by Plains Trains member Randall Watkins.
The truck was called “Gonzilla” by it’s owner, Sam Nable at the time. The truck was started by Barry Tidwell, and then bought and finished by Sam. Sam rebuilt the motor and Randall was thinking of buying it, but Sam thought it might be better if he didn’t because the “never late V8” (as Randall puts it) Cat engine had a ticking in it. But now Randall wished he had bought it after all.
Later, Sam sold it to another owner-operator, Randall said, and he saw it recently as well, on Highway 10 running back and forth to Cal.
Doug Fortson agreed with this information.
The truck model was filled in by Stan Buschman, who said it was a mid-80s Peterbilt extended hood 359. It has two 63 inch flattop sleepers in the configuration you see there in the picture. Probably about a 300 inch wheelbase and carrying 2 approximately 200-gallon fuel tanks plus another pair of 150-gallon fuel tanks. Stan said he’s also like to drive this custom truck.
Scott Curtis said it was a 300 inch wheelbase, and the truck also belonged to Flynn Motors in Tampa, Florida for a time.
Well, thanks to the members of this page, who continue to impress me with how much they offer here, we’ve been able to solve this mystery of this truck, which actually we could not find a thing on otherwise on the internet! Thanks guys!
