Zero toxicity. That’s a good number when it comes to using medical treatments.
Ginger has been used for hundreds of years as medicine, and it is making its way through the current age as well, used for a host of health reasons.
Among these reasons is an ability to kill prostate cancer cells and ovarian cancer cells. This was the subject of research by scientists at the U of Michigan.
It’s traditional use is for inflammation and nausea.
The recent report though stated that all instances where ginger powder was used to treat cancer cells resulted in cell death of the cancer cells (apoptosis, or cancer cell suicide). The ginger root also causes autophagy — the cancer cells attack each other.
Ginger can be used therefore as an aid to chemo, but also on its own.
“Ginger inhibits growth and modulates secretion of angiogenic factors in ovarian cancer cells. The use of dietary agents such as ginger may have potential in the treatment and prevention of ovarian cancer,” concluded a different study on the ability of ginger to combat cancer cells in ovaries.
Within ginger is something called zingiber officinale, which has been found to kill prostate cancer cells while not damaging healthy prostate cells. It was reportedly able to shrink a prostate tumor by 56% percent of its size.
Another interesting things about ginger is that it is not toxic, even at high doses.
