In Australia, they tow 3 or more trailers in “road trains.” Would you try this? Can you see the advantages?
They’re the longest trucks in the world. Some are 53 metres long, ( 174 feet ) hauling 115 metric tons (253,531 pounds), some, so-called “super Road-Trains,” have 7 trailers and haul 190 metric tonnes.
In North America we have a lot of rails — Europe, too. In Canada and America, our railroads were part of the history and life of our nations. In Australia, though, railways are few and far between. Most freight is transported by semis in these road-trains. Tractor-trailer-trailer-trailers are the best way to move long trains of freight in Australia, it is said, whether from the Outback to the city of Darwin or Perth, across the rugged and often barren wilds of the dusty orange and tan Aus desert.
You’ve seen trucks on the back of trains, but have you ever seen a train on the back of a truck?
