Peterbilt with Mountainous Sleeper

Peterbilt with Mountainous Sleeper

This custom semi with a big studio sleeper with, it looks like, a dome skylight (or so I thought — actually, Andrew Wilkinson pointed out on the Facebook page that it’s actually an in-motion satellite dish and air conditioner), is called by its owner “Size Matters.”

I think when it comes to sleeper quarters that might be true. With the front of this sleeper lowered, it looks like the rugged outline of a mountain climbing up from the grill to that dome skylight peak.

This particular custom Peterbilt tractor was at the 2008 Mid America Truck Show.

After some digging around the internet, it appears this sleeper was the work of ARI Legacy Sleepers, an Indiana-based custom sleeper company (Shipshewana). They have this truck and a number of others in their photo showcase of tractors and trailers. They do custom sleepers and factory conversions.

I should mention they do pretty much everything. Bed/dinettes, various woods for their tables and other interior fixings, halogen lighting, sound systems, pretty much whatever you can think of for a custom sleeper.

So after we wrote this article, Andrew Wilkinson pointed out that the dome on top is a satellite dish and right behind the dome is an air conditioner.

He also noted that he thought the fiberglass nose cone on the trailer made him suspect this truck was being used as a specialty car hauler. Thanks, Andrew!
